Almost Thur.....
Finally, I have found the time to jot down some narratives of my life. The past few months have been quite hectic. In addition to classes and weekly exams, the home improvement projects, managing moves, and planning for a wedding, I have had little time to write. When I did have the time, the only thing I felt like doing was vegging on the couch and watching Gray's Anatomy.
However, I am here. Where you ask me? Well, I am only 3 away to the last day of my 1st year of dental school. Oh what a year it has been. Behind me are the gross anatomy classes and human cadaver dissections. Behind me are the Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Physiology classes. To complete this year, I only have to complete my lab work where I drill and restore teeth all day, some community oral health classes, and a class where I do my first full-mouth cleaning. Looking back, I have learned a lot about the human body and dentistry. I actually feel like I am on the path of becoming a Doctor.
The day of being called a doctor for the first time is less than 3 years away. The road may seem long and windy, but I know that that is no time at all and it will pass quickly. Next year will be quite a year. Not only will I complete my clinical training where I will learn dentures and crowns, but I will also learn about all the drugs and the major diseases of the body and mouth. The classes do seem daunting, but at the same time, I am really excited about learning about these topics. After completion, I will thinking like a doctor and acting like one as I will have the knowledge to leverage to problem solve cases that will be presented to me. Oh man, I am really excited. By this time next year, those classes will be behind me and I will be receiving my introduction to the clinic. After my introduction, I will start to work on patients. I cannot wait.
That is one year away. In the next 5 weeks, I have to finish the wedding planning, have my BP, fly to Jamaica, and get married. Let me get through July and I will worry about next year.
