THINGS
We have these friends. They are good friends. They are older friends. They are well-off friends. We have our parties, our showers, our baptismal celebrations at their home. They pay for our dinner, even when we really don't want them to, and aren't just saying that because we really want them to.
They are truly good, generous people who never ask for a thing in return. Which is good, because I don't know of one thing we could give them in return which they (a) don't already have (b) are about to get or (c) and God could only afford.
Every Christmas and birthday is an exercise in "what can we get M & D? I mean, nothing measures up to what they get us. It's the way it is.
The other day, for Kevin's birthday (and for mine), they dropped off a computer and flat-screen monitor. Last year, they bought Kevin a flat-screen TV, the year before that, a Sony free-standing CD burner. Other things they bought us include a queen bed, a digital camera, two office desks, XM satellite radio and boombox, our honeymoon, the entire library of Baby Einstein DVDs and Miracle Knives.
There's more.
But that's not my point. My point is: they never wrap the stuff. Isn't that rude?

Oh my!!! Rude isn't even the word for it! They can atleast get wrapping paper from the dollar store!
