This is ironic. My last post spoke of the origins of human existence, like I'm some kind of intellectual. And conversely, all I've been doing lately is spend an incredibly ridiculous amount of time watching Buffy.
It's all I did yesterday evening. 6PM, 7PM, 8PM. Then, this morning, I watched the same episode from last night ALL OVER AGAIN.
I'm entranced by the Spike-Buffy romance dance. He seems so earnest, hopeful, and devoted (for the Evil Dead), and I have a crush on him. I read www.televisionwithoutpity.com every day to catch up on episodes I miss or just to re-live the one I just saw the night before (and the morning of).
I feel like an immense idiot for my addiction to this show. Please bear in mind that I am 33. My last real TV crush was on General Hospital's Noah Drake (Rick Springfield) circa 1982, and an occasional flirtation with the X-File's David Duchovny.
Kevin is sure that the Buffy producers indulge in subliminal brainwashing during each show to mind meld people's brains into loving the show beyond any reason, sanity or age.
There are too many people I know who are into this show.
What is it about it? It is funny, sure. It's got cute characters. The spooky storyline. A serial, hang-in-there-until-next-week vibe...but is that the formula? Is that it?
This show captures me. I hope I lose interest after the Spike thing runs its course. I keep telling Kevin that I will return to him in about two weeks, because by then, the F/X channel will be through airing Season 5 and I should be caught up...unless they start with Season 6, which is the season currently on prime-time...OR unless they start at the beginning with Season 1, which I'd need to acquaint myself with...
I need a Buffy the Vampire Slayer slayer or I will be lost forever...
