Watched the "Faces" special on The Learning Channel last night.
Very interesting.
Looks like all beauty in the universe comes down to a mathematical ratio. Every face considered beautiful in the world conforms to a ratio of 1.618-to-1. It confuses me, but according to the website, "this ratio can be used to build so-called golden shapes; for instance, a golden rectangle is one whose ratio of width to height is the golden ratio."
So, this guy on the show calculated a "Golden Mask," which divided a face into quadrants and angles, and shows the ideal distance b/w the nose and lips; how wide the mouth should be, how wide the eyes, and how far they should be from the forehead, etc.) and when this mask was overlaid onto photos of beautiful people, each face's dimensions matched the golden mask's exactly.
He put this mask on Elizabeth Hurley's likeness, Marilyn Monroe, Tom Cruise, etc., and sure enough they all had the facial symmetry equal to 1.618-to-1.
And...even more interestingly, it was...uh, I forget who...Da Vinci, perhaps?...who first calculated this ratio and found it applied to the patterns flowers grow in, and many other objects and designs we find beautiful.
So, helpfully, Kev pointed out that I could calculate where (according to this ratio) my nose should be in relation to my lips, how wide my eyes should be, how high my forehead, etc., and then apply makeup to manufacture these dimensions (i.e. "draw" my eyes wider, shorten my nose with contouring powder, etc.) to simulate a beautiful face.
Isn't he a peach?
This was just a theoretical though, because he knows I'm the most beautiful girl in the world.
